Rangers-linked Scotland international striker Kevin Nisbet has spoken out about his future after being linked with a number of clubs during the summer transfer window.

The Gers were said to be scouting Nisbet as early as November 2019, during his time at Dunfermline Athletic [Glasgow Times].

Yet, he would end up joining Hibs in the summer of 2020.

Ibrox links have persisted, though, with the Daily Record reporting in July that the Gers were ‘weighing up’ hijacking a Celtic move for the striker, and plenty of Bears urging their club to swoop.

The 24-year-old was also linked with several EFL Championship sides, including Swansea City.

However, Nisbet, who Gers legend Ally McCoist has described as ‘excellent’, says he’s content at Easter Road and is in negotiations over a new contract.

“We are still in talks just now,” he said [Scottish Sun]. “Speculation happens in every single window. But it was just speculation.”

“I’m happy to stay at Hibs, we have something good going on here and I’m really happy to be a Hibs player.

“Hopefully the contract can get sorted soon. It helps settle your mind. As soon as that gets sorted then I can look forward.”

This will be disappointing news for the hosts of Rangers fans who have been impressed by the Hibs forward over the past year or so.

He’s a natural finisher, who netted 18 goals at club level last season, while he also has an excellent work rate and holds the ball up well.

A new contract wouldn’t guarantee that he stays in Edinburgh long-term, but it would ensure that potential suitors would need to stump up a significant fee to prize him away.

Rangers aren’t exactly short of options at the top end of the pitch right now, but if Alfredo Morelos moves on and Jermain Defoe retires in the summer, several new recruits will have to be brought in.

Meanwhile, Rangers no.2 Gary McAllister has made a telling comment showing that the coaching staff shared a big fan concern.
