Former Steven Gerrard winger Josh McPake has landed a trial opportunity with Hamilton after his release from Rangers in the summer.
According to the Herald, the 22-year-old attacker is set to be handed a chance by the Scottish League One side who, like former Scotland youth international, have suffered a downturn in recent seasons.
The report claims the attacker will be given the opportunity to impress Hamilton boss John Rankin as Josh McPake looks to bounce back from his release from Rangers in the summer.
The Gers cut the attacker’s contract short by one year in the hope that the player could go out and find a permanent home after a series of loan stints away from the club.

Short term spells at Dundee, Greenock Morton, Harrogate Town, Morecambe, Tranmere Rovers and most recently Queens Park heralded mixed results and the player’s career was going sideways.
Combine this with reports of serious attitude problems, Josh McPake’s time at Rangers looked to be ending and, despite signing a three year deal in 2021, the winger was sent packing in the summer.
It’s a far cry from the much-hyped teenager who was handed his debut by Steven Gerrard back in 2019, with Josh McPake coming off the bench against St Joseph’s in the Europa League qualifiers.
Interestingly, outgoing Rangers manager and then Ibrox assistant Michael Beale congratulated the player at the time and claimed he had a “bright future” in the game.
With the English coach releasing Josh McPake in the summer, it’s a prediction which hasn’t yet come to fruition as the winger looks to win a deal with Hamilton.
That appearance against St Joseph’s would be the winger’s only appearance in a Rangers jersey and let’s hope, for the player’s sake, things turnaround at New Douglas Park.
