Ex-Rangers star Brandon Barker is set to team up with Celtic legend Neil Lennon as he signs a deal with Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus.
The Cypriot side have announced the signing of the 25-year-old right winger on their official channels, with Barker signing a three-year deal with the club.
It will mean Brandon Barker links up ex-Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who has been in charge of Omonia Nicosia since March of this year.
Interestingly, Brandon Barker was actually a Rangers player during Neil Lennon’s second stint in charge of Celtic, where the two were Old Firm rivals.
But Barker also worked under Lennon during the controversial former Parkhead midfielder’s time in charge of Hibs, with this period probably amongst the best of Brandon’s stuttering career.
The winger had been without a club since leaving English Championship Reading this summer following a short stint with the Royals.
Ex-Rangers winger Brandon Barker signs for Omonia Nicosia
Rangers had released the ex-Man City youth from his contract in February of this year after the winger failed to live up to his early career promise during a spell at Ibrox.
Brandon Barker clearly didn’t do enough to convince Reading bosses his contract should be extended beyond this summer and now he’ll be turning out in Cyprus this season.
Rangers signed the winger from Man City for an undisclosed fee in 2019 but the ex-England youth international failed to ever make an impression on the Ibrox side.
Making 27 appearances in total for Rangers, Brandon Barker netted three goals with his time at Ibrox broken up a loan spell at Oxford United.
Whilst Rangers fans always want to see ex-players do well, Barker’s latest move will certainly split opinion amid the link up with Neil Lennon.
Meanwhile, Rangers face a contract dilemma as a key Ibrox star is cited as a potential replacement for an exit-bound £55m Premier League star.
