Former Rangers star Scott Arfield has been spotted turning out for new club Charlotte FC in the MLS for the first time since leaving Ibrox.
Coming off the bench in the second half against NYCFC, the midfielder almost opened his account for his new club with a dream debut goal but it wasn’t to be in a 1-1 draw in New York.
McKinze Gaines had given Charlotte a first half lead before Scott Arfield’s introduction about 10 minutes into the second period.
And the midfielder managed to leave an impression with his new club by almost breaking through on goal after a neat nutmeg before getting the ball stuck in his feet.
Speaking after the game, Charlotte manager Christian Lattanzio praised the midfielder and claimed that Scott Arfield will bring a lot to the MLS side after making his debut.
“I had the choice and I wanted to give a debut to Scott [Arfield],” said Lattanzio.
“We can already see what he can offer us. Leadership, can hold the ball and try and play one-two. He still has to come to terms with our organisation offensively but he nearly scored a great goal by turning and running to the goal.”
Scott Arfield makes early Charlotte impression
The 34-year-old former Ibrox star left the club at the expiration of his contract in the summer after five years at Rangers where he was Steven Gerrard’s first signing at the club.
Signing a two-year deal in the USA, Scott Arfield made 233 appearances for Rangers, scoring 43 goals and building a strong rapport with an adoring Ibrox support.
One of the most likeable figures around the club for half a decade, Michael Beale admitted the player’s exit was with a heavy heart as Rangers look to move in a new direction.
But Scott Arfield always be welcome back at Rangers and there isn’t a bluenose out there who isn’t wishing the midfielder every success with Charlotte FC.
