Former Rangers loanee Florian Kamberi has joined Swiss Super League club, FC St Gallen, on a long-term deal.

The 25-year-old forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers and upon arriving at Ibrox, described it as his ‘dream move’ [STV].

He showed glimpses of real ability, particularly during a league fixture at St Johnstone in February in which he changed the game after coming on as a substitute at half-time.

However, a goal and two assists from nine appearances in Light Blue weren’t enough to convince the club to offer him a permanent deal and he’s had to turn elsewhere.

It’s been known for some time that Hibernian were looking to sell the former Swiss youth international this summer and FC St Gallen, who finished second in the recently concluded Swiss Super League season, have now swooped.


The clubs have opted not to disclose the transfer fee, but Kamberi has landed a contract until 2023.


St Gallen have moved quickly to replace their former star striker Cedric Itten, who signed for Rangers on Tuesday following a 20-goal season for the Swiss club.

Kamberi started his senior club career in Switzerland with spells at FC Rapperswil-Jona and Grasshoppers before leaving for Scotland in 2018.
