Former Rangers and Liverpool defender Danny Wilson is set for a stunning return to Scottish football with Queen’s Park.

The 32-year-old defender is closing in on an 18-month deal with the Spiders which will see him return to Scottish football after five years with MLS side Colorado Rapids.

A product of the Rangers youth Academy, there was a time when Danny Wilson was tipped to be the best Scottish defender of his generation.

But now the centre-back is set for a stint in the Scottish Championship with the ambitious Hampden club, who have their sights set on promotion to the top flight.

Danny Wilson set for Queen’s Park move

According to the Scottish Sun – who broke the story – Danny Wilson chose Queen’s Park over “several options”.

The defender, now 32, will join up with Callum Davidson’s squad as the Glasgow southside club look to avoid relegation to League One this season.

Currently 9th in a tight Scottish Championship table, the club are occupying a relegation place and the task for the former St Johnstone boss is to keep their heads above water this season.

With Danny Wilson joining on an 18-month deal, the plan would then be for a full-on assault on the Championship title next season with a view to being promoted.

Teenage Rangers talent earned Liverpool switch

Rangers fans will remember Danny Wilson as the fresh-faced teenager who broke through at Ibrox way back in 2009.

Playing the full 90 minutes of a League Cup win over Dundee at the age of 17, a week later Wilson became the club’s youngest ever Champions League player in a draw with Unirea Urziceni.

The young defender’s progress at Rangers was noted down south, with Liverpool signing a deal worth up to £5m to sign the teenage defender in the summer of 2010.

But that move was too much, too soon for Wilson who toiled with the Reds desire playing eight times in his first season and Danny eventually returned to Scotland with Hearts in 2013.

Joining Rangers on a free-contract two seasons later, the defender would go on to help the Ibrox side to promotion and spent three years at the club before heading stateside in 2018.

In total, Danny Wilson made 108 appearances for Rangers across two spells, scoring five goals.
