Only four months ago was Noah Mbamba being touted for a move to Rangers, now he’s lifting the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Belgian teenager, who was handed his footballing debut by Philippe Clement at Club Brugge, was one of the first names being touted for a switch to Rangers under the manager.
Rangers were even said to be beating the likes of Manchester City to strike a short-term deal for the midfielder, who at 19-years-old has been signposted as a major European talent.
For whatever reason a switch never materialised and Noah Mbamba has spent this season propping up the Bayer Leverkusen bench.
Noah Mbamba plays bit-part role for Bayer Leverkusen
Noah Mbamba was not named in the Bayer Leverkusen squad for the 5-0 victory over Wolfsburg which sparked wild scenes in the BayArena.
Famously founded back in 1904 by pharmaceutical company Bayer, it’s taken 120 years for the Leverkusen club to lift their first ever Bundesliga title.
And they’ve certainly done it in style.
Ending Bayern Munich’s 11 year run as German champions, Xabi Alonso’s side remain unbeaten and on course for a legendary treble.
With the Bundesliga secured, Bayer hold a 2-0 Europa League quarter final lead over West Ham whilst the team have a German Cup final with Kaiserslautern on the horizon.
Noah Mbamba – who has been a squad player for the bulk of the season – has made three substitute appearances in this legendary Bundesliga campaign.
However, for the most part the midfielder has either been an unused substitute or not involved at all.
Rangers to look towards Belgium?
Given Philippe Clement has a close relationship with Noah Mbamba, Rangers transfer links to the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder are easy ones to make.
Players who could be available and who have links to Belgian manager will always wind up circulating in the press and we tend to take these sorts of stories with a pinch of salt.
That said, Belgium has been a hotbed of talent in recent seasons and Rangers have regularly looked to the Pro League to sign their players.

With the club also employing Belgian pair Nils Koppen and Anthony Galinksi in the recruitment department, it’s a country we expect to pop up consistently.
Who knows what the future has in store for Noah Mbamba, who has clearly found chances at a premium this season with Bayer Leverkusen.
But with Xabi Alonso set to stick around in Germany, could this be a player we are once again linked to in the summer?
