Glen Kamara claims a former Celtic hero sold him on quitting Rangers for Leeds United.

The Finnish international midfielder, 28, has revealed that national teammate Teemu Pukki gave him the lowdown on Leeds United gaffer Daniel Farke before the move from Rangers.

Pukki – who had an ill-fated stint with Celtic between 2013 and 2015 – played under the German manager during his time at Norwich City.

In a glowing recommendation, Teemu Pukki helped convince Glen Kamara on a move to Elland Road with the ex-Arsenal talent’s Ibrox fate sealed well before the summer.

“Yeah, [Teemu Pukki] messaged me as well, everyone does their due diligence at all of the clubs,” Glen Kamara told the Official Leeds United podcast.

“He messaged me and had a word with me, and he only had good things to say about the manager. I was like okay, I’m excited and after I spoke to the manager, it just confirmed what he [Pukki] said.”

Glen Kamara has also had some choice words about his Rangers exit in the summer after a long-drawn out period of transfer interest.

It was clear that the former Dundee star wanted to move on but Rangers wouldn’t budge on an asking price and Leeds United didn’t cough up the £5m required until the deadline approached.

It left Glen Kamara in a limbo of sorts at Rangers as Michael Beale looked to clear out the old and bring in the new to the club’s squad and the Finnish star has had his say.

“The first couple of weeks it was quite hard. I was just getting my fitness back and I hadn’t played a lot,” said Kamara.

“I was kind of training on my own away from Rangers, so it was quite tough. But it’s good now and I’m feeling settled.

“Yeah, with more game time and that. Like I said I had quite a f***** up pre-season in itself and I feel like I am getting back to myself and playing more games than I have over the last year.”

Glen Kamara finding form at Leeds United

It might’ve all ended in tears at Rangers for Glen Kamara but the midfielder was a key contributor in years gone by.

He probably should’ve just been sold a little earlier.

At one point a pivotal member of Steven Gerrard’s team, Glen Kamara will go down as one of the bargain buys of the modern era at Rangers costing just £50k.

At his best the midfielder was a superbly technical ball player who could intercept and read the game almost fluently, both sweeping up in defence and sparking attacks.

It’s little wonder Leeds United fans are beginning to see the same.

But too often the midfielder was found wanting at Rangers and it became clear that the player was dissatisfied at the club in the aftermath of signing a new contract in 2021.

The exit of Steven Gerrard and close friends Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey appeared to have a big knock on and it’s left a salty taste in the mouth of Rangers fans.

Everyone knows that the way to a bluenose’s heart is commitment to the cause with the downing of tools a criminal offence from which many never recover.

Speaking of downing tools, would you take Ryan Kent back at Rangers?
