English club lead pack as Rangers loan set to be cut short - report

English League Two outfit Carlisle United are hoping to land Rangers winger Josh McPake with the Ibrox attacker reportedly set to cut his current loan move with Morecambe short.

According to the Daily Record, Carlisle boss Keith Millen wants to add the winger ASAP as they look to shoot up the League Two table, with the club currently languishing in 21st spot.

McPake has made an impact at League Two level previously, the forward scoring four goals in 23 games for Harrogate Town during a loan spell last season.

Josh McPake won the FA Trophy during that spell with Harrogate but things have not worked out as planned in League One with the Shrimps.

The highly-rated Gers forward, 20, was signed on loan by Morecambe in the summer after they sold Rangers-linked Carlos Mendes Gomes to Championship Luton Town.

But Josh McPake has struggled to make an impact on the EFL1 strugglers, the attacker making only three starts and seven appearances all season.

The Shrimps also sit 21st in the English third tier, only three points above the automatic relegation zone.

Rangers loan star Josh McPake set for January switch

Carlisle United are clearly hoping that a drop down the divisions will be a good move for all parties as Josh McPake looks to get more playing time whilst out on loan.

But the Blues are not the only ones looking towards Josh McPake ahead of the January window, with Bradford City and Oldham Athletic linked by earlier reports.

The Daily Record report claims that English League Two outfits including Tranmere Rovers, Barrow and Hartlepool are also interested, meaning six sides are in for Josh McPake.

Rangers remain hopeful regarding Josh McPake and his future after handing the forward a new contract until 2024 only last season.

Meanwhile, the absence of another Rangers loanee has been explained as his adopted side stumbled in their hunt for a European place.
