Rangers would need around £2 million in order to cash in on Antonio Colak but Werder Bremen must first raise funds before they can bring the striker to the Bundesliga.
Kris Boyd saw this coming.
Shortly after Mick Beale was officially confirmed as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox successor in the autumn, former Rangers forward Boyd expressed his doubts about whether Antonio Colak had the ‘attributes’ required to lead the line under Steven Gerrard’s old assistant.
Reports from The Sun suggesting that Rangers are now ready to sell the Croatia international for just £2 million despite an 18-goal debut season in Glasgow, then, may have Boyd feeling like Scotland’s answer to Nostradamus.

Rangers could sell Antonio Colak aready
Colak, the report says, lacks the pace and the energy Beale is looking for; new recruits Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima far better suited than a 29-year-old who, while a lethal finisher, tends to drift in and out of games, while lacking much of a presence outside of the penalty box.
There are reportedly a number of Bundesliga clubs hoping to bring the former Hoffenheim and Nuremberg poacher back to Germany. Werder Bremen are among them.
But, as Fussball News point out, Werder currently have no funds to spend on any new players. They must first raise around £6 million via player sales. And, until that happens, Colak will not be on his way to the Weser Stadium.
“You see from the players who were offered here that their expectations are high,” Werder’s head of football Clemens Fritz tells the DeichStube podcast. “One wonders whether people think that we fished a sack of money out of the Weser (river)!
“We have to keep looking at what we can do with the budget. We keep our eyes open in all positions. What can ultimately be implemented will be seen in the coming weeks.
“We are a club that also relies upon transfer income,” Fritz adds. “If you don’t generate any transfer income this summer, then it’s immediately an issue for the new season.”
Werder did succeed in bringing Naby Keita back to Germany. But that was only possible because Keita was available on a free transfer, and willing to take a massive cut on the wages he was earning at Liverpool.
Unless Rangers have any plans to terminate the final two years of Colak’s contract – and why would they? – the striker will have to be patient as he waits for a club to meet his £2 million asking price.
