Whilst the club hasn’t announced a deal for the player yet, Cantwell is the name which has been most strongly alluded to by manager Michael Beale in the last few weeks.

David Wagner on Todd Cantwell

Speaking last week, Norwich City manager David Wagner broke his silence on the subject with Todd Cantwell out of contract come to the end of the season.

The German manager is just in the door at Carrow Road and claims the player hasn’t progressed as planned at Norwich and perhaps a switch will help the 24-year-old recapture his potential.

“It’s totally okay that he has conversations with different clubs to sort out his future,” Wagner said [BBC Sport].

“I’ve had a longer chat with him. I said ‘make sure you find the best solution for yourself, take your time for it’.

“We will see how everything progresses.

“Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he has not made the progression everyone had hoped,” Wagner told BBC Radio Norfolk.

“But I know, and been around long enough in football, that sometimes you need only this one move – to come into a different environment – and for whatever reason everything goes upwards and no one can really explain it.

“I hope for him that he will do this. I know from everything that I’ve seen, he has everything to do it.”

According to Sky Sports, any Rangers deal for Todd Cantwell isn’t yet complete with the Ibrox side’s offer “being considered” by the player.

It’s clear that David Wagner believes Todd Cantwell has ability and Rangers manager Michael Beale will hope to harness it should the midfielder join the ranks at Ibrox.
