Darius Olaru breaks silence as FCSB set asking price amid Rangers links

Romanian international Darius Olaru claims he’s focused on FCSB as the Liga I club reportedly set an asking price for the influential Rangers-linked attacking midfielder.

The Gers were linked to the 24-year-old in the summer window but for whatever reason a potential move for the player never came to fruition.

The Daily Record then claimed that the Steaua Bucharest star “could be an option“ for Rangers this January as the club look at midfield reinforcements under manager Michael Beale.

Rated by Transfermarkt as the most valuable player in the Romanian top flight, the latest coming out of the country suggests that Darius Olaru will wait until the summer to move on.

Agent claims Olaru unlikely to leave FCSB

Giovanni Becali, the agent of Rangers-linked Darius Olaru, has given an update regarding the player’s future to Romanian outlet DigiSport.

In it, the report claims that FCSB want at least €5m (£4.4m) for the player’s services and that despite previously being touted for a winter move, Olaru is now likely to stay in Romania until the end of the season.

Becali appears to suggest that it’s the asking price which is a stumbling block as Darius Olaru continues to be linked with exit door.

“We proposed it [a transfer exit this January],” said Becali.

“You know what they say, never say never, but there is little chance of him leaving this winter, given that FCSB will soon be in contention.

“FCSB is asking a lot for Olaru. There are several teams who have followed him, who want him, but in the winter they hardly pay large sums of money.

“Probably in the summer it will be possible to transfer him, if everything goes well.”

Darius Olaru has also been speaking amid those exit links with the reported Rangers target focused on life in Romania for the time being.

However, the nine-times capped Romanian international – and teammate of Ibrox playmaker Ianis Hagi – has expressed his desire to see more of countrymen make the switch abroad.

“I don’t know, I don’t know anything, I just know that in about 10-11 days we have a match with Hermannstadt and I’m not thinking [about an exit],” said Olaru.

“I don’t know who it will be [the next player to leave FCSB], I think there are a lot of us good players, with quality, and I hope that more of us will take the step abroad.”

Meanwhile, it’s another Rangers star’s turn to be at the centre of moonhowling refereeing coverage this week.
