Danny Murphy has given his thoughts on recent Steven Gerrard speculation, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The Gers manager has been linked with a switch to Championship club Derby [Daily Record] and more recently, with Premier League giants, Newcastle United [Mirror].

The Magpies are set to have a vacancy to fill after Rafa Benitez turned down a contract extension.
Yet, Murphy, who played in midfield alongside Gerrard for Liverpool, doesn’t believe his old pal’s head will be turned.
“I doubt it,” he said, as
“But I doubt it because he went up there with a real ambition to try and overturn the Celtic stronghold and try and compete for that title. He’s improved them in that year. Celtic ran away with it a little bit in the end, but still, it was a much more competitive league.
“I think the job’s half done for him and Gary Mac. I would be surprised, I really would.”

Verdict
These comments from a former teammate who knows Gerrard well, should be music to the ears of Rangers fans.
There’s a lot of work ahead, but there’s the sense the manager is building something special at Ibrox.
While the Premier League undoubtedly possesses a big pull, it would be surprising if he jumped ship. With Rangers, he has the prospect of European football and a massive title race. If he can lead the Gers to no.55, he’ll be looking at immortality in the eyes of the club’s support.
Meanwhile, while Benitez lasted three seasons at Newcastle, the manager’s post at St James’ has proven something of a poisoned chalice over recent times.
