Former Rangers keeper Andy Firth has found a new club in Connah’s Quay Nomads after his contract expired at Ibrox in the summer.
The details of how long Firth, 25, will sign on with the Welsh side are not disclosed on the club’s official website but the deal comes following his release from Rangers.
After spending over three years at Ibrox and making only one appearance – Andy Firth coming on as a substitute in the final day defeat to Kilmarnock in 18/19 – the keeper will be looking forward to playing more first-team football down south.
Already making his debut for Connah’s Quay Nomads – and keeping a clean sheet in the 5-0 win pre-season win over Llandudno on Tuesday – it looks like Firth will certainly get that in Wales.
Ex-Rangers stopper Andy Firth signs for Connah Quay’s Nomads
A former Liverpool youth and stopper for National League sides Barrow and Chester, Connah’s Quay Nomads manager Craig Harrison has praised the deal.
“We are very pleased to get Andy all done and dusted as we have been working hard to bring another goalkeeper in following Ollie Byrne’s departure,” said Harrison [CQNFC].
“Neil Ebbrell has done a fantastic job over the years in recruiting some great goalkeepers for the club and I’m sure Andy will be another one.
“Andy has great pedigree having spent the best part of 10 years with Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers whilst also having two spells on loan at National Premier league teams.”
The cult ex-Rangers keeper also took to Twitter to express his delight at joining the Welsh side, Andy Firth clearly delighted to sign this deal.
The cult ex-Rangers keeper remains a popular figure amongst Ibrox fans, who proclaimed Firth to have the best job in football as he largely cheered his teammates on from the sidelines.
Getting a front row seat during Rangers’ monumental European adventures and 55th title-winning campaign, Andy Firth was a notoriously influential member of the dressing room.
So much so that one former Rangers coach heralded the stopper as an unsung hero ahead of his emotional summer exit from the Glasgow club.
