‘Crazy’… Barry Ferguson cries out for £2m Rangers striker signing after Fabio Silva deal

Barry Ferguson has urged Rangers to add one Scottish Premiership striker to their arsenal after the capture of Fabio Silva.

The 20-year-old Portuguese forward was made Philippe Clement’s first signing for the Ibrox club and secured him before the January transfer window opens in a couple of days.

Silva will help ease Rangers’ shortage in the forward department. Danilo and Kemar Roofe are ruled out injured and Abdallah Sima will depart for the African Cup of Nations in January to represent Senegal.

But former Rangers captain Ferguson – speaking on The Go Radio Football Show – doesn’t think Rangers should stop there in regards to beefing up their striker options.

Cyriel Dessers is the only fit and available No9 at the club but Ferguson would love Lawrence Shankland – who has 16 goals in 26 appearances for Hearts this season – to be the man that provides competition for the Nigerian.

If Rangers can sign Shankland for £2m, Ferguson says his old club would be crazy not to sign him from Hearts.

Ferguson said: “It’s good to see Rangers starting their business early and I would fully expect another two or three players in.

“A lot of people may say it might not happen now but I would be surprised, really surprised, if Rangers still ain’t interested in him. I think they need another forward.

“If he is going to be at the price of around £2m, I think Rangers would be crazy not to look at it. I forgot that Danilo is out for a couple of months with a knee operation.

“Abdallah Sima has been called up for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations. I believe Rangers will bring in another centre forward in and I would be surprised if it won’t be Lawrence Shankland.”

The Jambos will simply not sell Shankland to Rangers for £2m this winter. The Edinburgh club are readying a new contract for their star man to ward off transfer suitors. So if Shankland was sign on the dotted line, Rangers may be put off immediately.
