Connor Goldson is the latest name to be included in a senior Rangers cull this transfer window.

The 31-year-old centre-back has given the last six years of his career to the Gers and for the most part has been a stalwart option for no fewer than four managers.

But after another season of domestic disappointment, Connor Goldson is one of a number of a players in the senior leadership group who’ve came under intense scrutiny from the stands.

Now it’s being widely reported that the ex-Brighton centre-half is heading for the Ibrox exit door and is currently in Cyprus having a medical.

Here’s the latest surrounding the Rangers defender.

Connor Gone-soon?

Rumours started to spread online about the future of Connor Goldson when images of the Rangers defender leaving Prestwick Airport on a private plane began to circulate.

These then intensified when internet sleuths deduced that the jet was bound for Larnaca in Cyprus.

Leading Cypriot football outlet This Is Mappa then added to the furore by suggesting Goldson is a target for Aris Limassol.

The Russian financed outfit faced Rangers in the Europa League last season and are known to be on the hunt for an experienced centre-back.

Now, Cypriot outlet Super Sport FM are reporting that Aris appear to have found their ‘chosen one’ in Rangers defender Goldson.

Joining them are Kerkida, who claim Aris are in ‘talks’ with Rangers over the ex-Shrewsbury centre-back.

Connor Goldson is contracted to Rangers until 2026 and would command a fee.

With the centre-back currently Rangers’ highest earner – at least according to Salary Sport – Rangers could also free up £37k per week or almost £2m per season from the wage bill.

The exit also comes weeks after ex-Aberdeen chief Kieth Wyness bizarrely claimed Rangers could command up to £30m for the stalwart defender.

Whilst Rangers are not expected to demand such a hefty fee, somewhere between £1m and £2m will be enough to tempt the Ibrox side.

Rangers transfer cull continues

If Connor Goldson does leave Rangers this summer, it will further symbolise the end of an era at the club.

Playing over 300 games across six seasons at Rangers, the defender has been a mainstay at the heart of the Ibrox defence and will be remembered fondly for his commitment and dedication to the Ibrox cause.

Potentially set to leave with a Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and League Cup winner’s medal, not to mention a Europa League runners’ up medal, fans will focus on the success of Goldson and his teammates as the years pass.

But having been given ample opportunities to end Celtic’s dominance, and despite coming painfully close, Goldson and the established Rangers leadership group have come second best for the final time.

Out have gone Borna Barisic and John Lundstram to Trabzonspor already, Borna’s comments this week about a post-Gerrard rot only serving to justify their exits.

Joining them have been perennial crocks Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe, whose relentless injury issues have dramatically impacted the club.

Connor Goldson is also one of another four Rangers first-teamers primed for the exit door as the Gers enter phase two of a stuttering transfer window.
