Clement makes transfer claim which means £4.4m ace could be a Rangers target

Philippe Clement has admitted that signing a new striker will be ‘one of the priorities’ for Rangers in the January transfer window amid links with Bojan Miovski and Kevin van Veen.

Mick Beale was never one to keep his cards close to his chest when discussing Rangers’ transfer plans, and his Ibrox successor was similarly candid when quizzed about the prospect of a new number nine arriving in Glasgow after Christmas.

Danilo, the big-money summer signing from Feyenoord, could be set for a long-term spell on the sidelines with knee surgery a possibility.

And, while being quizzed on the situation by Rangers Review, Philippe Clement confirmed that a replacement is likely to be required with the unconvincing Cyriel Dessers and the injury-prone Kemar Roofe his current options in attack.

Philippe Clement wants a new forward

“(Signing a striker) will be one of the priorities,” the former Monaco boss said.

Clement’s comments will give further credence to reports linking Rangers with the likes of Bojan Miovski. With 11 goals already, the Montenegrin marksman has been a shining light in a dark spell for Aberdeen.

The Scottish Sun suggested earlier this week that Rangers were ‘unlikely’ to make a move with the Dons demanding a Premiership-record fee in excess of £4.4 million. Danilo’s injury, however, could see the Glasgow giants test the water.

A more affordable option could be Kevin van Veen

The former Motherwell talisman was prolific at Firhill, nominated for Scotland’s Player of the Year award in 2022/23. Van Veen told The Sun recently that Rangers showed an ‘interest’ in him not so long ago, while opening the door to a return to Britain after finding himself out of favour at Groningen.

Bojan Miovski and Kevin van Veen are options

But while Clement was open and honest when asked about Rangers’ pursuit of a striker, he stopped short of naming Lawrence Shankland as a target. Clement was spotted in discussions with the Scotland ace after Rangers beat Hearts 1-0 in midweek.

“That’s a good question! I’m never going to speak about players we are interested or not in,” Clement said. “Clearly, I must watch out really hard what I am doing!

“But I greeted all the players of Hearts.”
