New Charlton chairman Matt Southall has opened up on the future of Rangers linked striker Lyle Taylor, as quoted by Football London.
In mid-December, Sky Sports claimed the Gers were one of a number of clubs considering making a move for the 29-year-old forward, and rumours have abounded ever since, with the player’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The powers that be at the Valley saw a contract extension offer turned down by the player, an offer they have since rescinded.
However, Southall said the “door is not shut” for Taylor should he reconsider, before asserting that the player will not be sold this month.
“Lyle is not for sale,” said Southall, as quoted by Football London. “Even if he doesn’t sign a new deal, he is here until the end of the season.”
Elsewhere in the press conference, the Addicks chairman stated it would take “ridiculous money” to tempt the club into a sale.

Verdict
This news will be a blow for some Bears who were optimistic of bringing in Taylor as a third striking option for the second half of the season.
Given that the focus of this window is to trim the squad, it’s highly unlikely the Gers will be splashing ‘ridiculous money’ to bring in a squad player.
This stance makes sense from Charlton’s point of view, though. Immediately following a takeover, it’s unlikely the English club are under pressure to sell and Taylor has been a big player for them when fit this season.
The 29-year-old has seven Championship goals despite only starting nine matches either side of a knee injury and he’ll be key if they are to avoid the drop.
Meanwhile, the Gers are reportedly set for pre-contract negotiations with a Stoke City striker following the conclusion of the club’s pre-season trip to Dubai [Daily Record].
