Stoke City have appointed Jared Dublin as the club’s new head of recruitment, just weeks after Rangers pipped the English Championship club to the signing of Dujon Sterling.

The Potters have announced the appointment of Dublin on their official media channels, the recruitment guru joining the club after similar spells with Sheffield United and Reading.

These roles for transfer negotiators and talent spotters are of increasing importance in the football world and Stoke City have opted for a new direction this season.

But not before Rangers managed to pip the club to one of the early summer signings of what promises to be a busy transfer window at Ibrox.

Stoke turn to recruitment guru after Dujon Sterling blow

The Gers reportedly defeated both Stoke City and Chelsea in the hunt for versatile defender Dujon Sterling, who spent last season on loan at the Britannia.

The 23-year-old impressed during a solid loan stint with Stoke City last season, with the fact the club have returned for the player evidential of his impact made in Staffordshire last campaign.

Playing 28 times for Stoke last season, Rangers secured a pre-contract move for defender Dujon Sterling when his contract expired at parent club in the summer.

Speaking after securing the move, Sterling himself was glowing about choosing Rangers with the defender clear that choosing Ibrox was easy after Michael Beale outlined his vision for the future.

“I am really excited to come to such a big club, there’s a lot of history and the supporters are so passionate, so I am thrilled,” said Sterling.

“I wasn’t expecting to make my mind up about my future this quickly, but the Gaffer came in for me straight away and what he proposed to me was everything that I believe I need.

“We were on the same wavelength, he believes in me and I believe in what he is trying to do as well so it was a no-brainer for me to come.”

Former Stoke City loanee Dujon Sterling signed his pre-contract with Rangers at the end of May, following Norwich City star Kieran Dowell in signing for the Gers.
