It’s a third loan move for Hastie since his arrival at Ibrox in the summer of 2019.

The 22-year-old has only made two appearances under Steven Gerrard, failing to make his mark at senior level.

He’s spent time at Rotherham United and his old club Motherwell and has now dropped down to the Championship to join Thistle.

Hastie will link up with fellow Ger, Lewis Mayo, at Firhill, with the initial loan deal only running until January.

Jags boss Ian McCall previously denied interest in the Scotland youth international but expressed his delight after the deal was announced on Monday morning.

“Firstly, Rangers have been fantastic with us in allowing us to take Jake on loan,” he said [ptfc.co.uk]. “My job now is to give him the confidence to go out and show everyone the player he can be, the one who lit up the Scottish Premiership and scored goals at that level.”

“Jake gives us another option of serious pace in the team from middle to front, along with Scott Tiffoney. I simply want Jake to go out and enjoy playing football with Partick Thistle – with one caveat, that he’ll need to work hard to get into this team.”

As alluded to by McCall, Hastie has struggled to perform consistently during his previous loan spells and this is surely his last shot at showing he has enough ability to have a future at Ibrox.

In theory, he should tear up the second tier, though, and Thistle fans are delighted with the signing.
