Richard Foster thinks 49ers CEO Jed York’s recent admission about Rangers could pour cold water on the club’s efforts to sign Vaclav Cerny permanently.
Cerny has been fantastic for Rangers this season and has probably been the club’s standout player alongside central midfielder Nicolas Raskin.
The Czech Republic international winger is on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the campaign, but it has been reported that Rangers hold a £5.5m buy option.
It is being said that Rangers have until the middle to end of May to trigger that option to sign Cerny permanently, before he is offered up to the rest of the transfer market.
Essentially, Rangers will be priced out of signing Cerny if the US consortium seeking a controlling stake in the Ibrox club are not in place before the trigger date.

Richard Foster’s bleak prediction about Rangers takeover and Cerny hopes
The consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and supported by Paraag Marathe have close ties to the San Francisco 49ers, whose CEO is Jed York.
York says the 49ers’ financials will not overlap with the Rangers takeover deal as he distanced himself from any real involvement in the Govan giants.
And that, according to ex-Rangers defender Richard Foster, means the Govan giants may not be set for a hefty influx of cash for summer transfer recruitment, which could mean a deal for Cerny is not financially viable.
Foster told The Go Radio Football Show: “It (York’s admission) seems to say you (Rangers) won’t be getting a war chest of money, that’s how I read it. It seems to say, you know, ‘calm down a little bit’.
“The £5.5m for Cerny might be outwith what Rangers are prepared to pay, or what they are able to pay, sorry.
“It’s all up in the air who the new manager is going to be, the new players they are going to sign. Teams right now will be looking at next season, Rangers will be no different.
“But they need some clarity soon because they might potentially lose targets because they don’t move quick enough, they don’t move early enough.
“But they don’t even know who the new manager is going to be or what this takeover is going to look like, so the sooner that get’s done the better.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a takeover where it’s ‘here’s £20m, go and spend your money’. I think it’s going to be less than that certainly.”
Rangers need ‘speedy’ Cerny resolution
The Daily Mail have also been reporting recently over the Cerny permanent transfer situation that Rangers face in May.
They say that Rangers must chase a “speedy resolution” as the deadline before the 27-year-old is available in the open market looms closer.
It appears the US-led consortium’s takeover of Rangers needs to be finalised so that the future owners can make a financial decision over Cerny.
If not, Rangers will likely be priced out of signing Cerny with the Daily Record reporting that a 10-strong list of clubs could spark a bidding war when the transfer window opens for real in June.
