Premier League outfit Burnley are reportedly eyeing a move for former Rangers Academy midfielder Ciaran Dickson following his mysterious release this summer.

Despite making his breakthrough into the first-team last season in a 4-0 League Cup win against Falkirk the midfielder was one of ten academy players released in the summer.

This is even stranger when you consider that Dickson, 19, also signed a new Rangers contract in January of 2021 [Rangers].

Back then Academy chief Craig Mullholland challenged Dickson to grab his chance and demonstrate his “desire” to cut it at Ibrox.

For whatever reason, that never happened as the Ibrox kid headed up the list of Academy players who were released this summer.

Now the Scottish Sun is claiming the source of the player’s exit from Ibrox concerned a fall-out with the Rangers backroom team.

Without going into any great detail regarding Dickson’s exit, the report simply claims that Dickson is “believed to have fallen out with the Gers management at Ibrox”.

They claim that Burnley and Sean Dyche have been alerted to the youngster’s availability with Dickson one of the brightest talents north of the border.

If he does sign for the Clarets, then there will be some conjecture as to the justification regarding his Ibrox exit but it’s clear those who aren’t committed are not welcome.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard infamously sounded out “ego” in the Academy last season amid rumours regarding Kai Kennedy interesting Bayern Munich and Man City.

Speaking of Academy players who exited this summer – what happened to one of the club’s leading talents once talked up by Jermain Defoe?
