Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke has reportedly handed in a transfer request amid high-profile links to the likes of Rangers.

That’s according to Bild in Germany, who claim the 27-year-old 6ft5 forward is hoping to push through a transfer in the next window despite the fact his contract expires in the summer.

Once a £7m signing for RB Leipzig and still the record signing in Bundesliga 2, Davie Selke does have a decent amount of pedigree even if at present the forward is struggling to break into the Hertha Berlin side.

The latest from Bild comes amid Rangers links to the striker, with reports in Germany claiming the Ibrox side made an enquiry to sign the player back in the summer.

However, Rangers would’ve surely seen competition for the player’s signature with the likes of West Brom, FC Basel and FC Copenhagen also linked.

So far this season, Selke has only started only three games for the club in the German top flight whilst his other nine appearances have come from the bench.

Interestingly, the forward has started the last two and even scored from the penalty spot v Bayern Munich.

Davie Selke could pose interesting option for Rangers

Rangers opted to move for Antonio Colak in the summer and whilst the big Croatian has been a revelation this season, the other two strikers in the squad have struggled to make an impression.

Alfredo Morelos, working his way back from a long-term injury lay-off and a series of off-field issues, has been unconvincing since his return to the first-team.

Not to mention the fact his contract is up come the end of the season.

Kemar Roofe – who never made an appearance this season until coming on against Dundee in the League Cup in late October – is injured once again and cannot be relied on to be available.

That means signing another striker might make sense for Rangers as they look to compete on three fronts domestically and should Davie Selke become available he is an interesting option.

Meanwhile, the Rangers accounts “almost certainly” confirm a £6m payment to an Ibrox pariah.
