A leading Bundesliga journalist has shot down rumours that Rangers are readying a loan move for Borussia Dortmund and USA wonderkid Giovanni Reyna.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is the son of former Gers midfielder Claudio and is named after Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

As the kid works his way back from an injury-disrupted season, there had been some talk online regarding a potential link-up at Rangers in a headline that writes itself.
Widely regarded as one of the best young talents in global football, had there been any truth to this rumour then it certainly would’ve been one for Rangers fans to get excited about.
But before the talk even got off the ground or enough around WhatsApp chats to send fans into a frenzy, it’s been clamped by North America-based Bundesliga journalist Manuel Veth.
Giovanni Reyna to Rangers rumours nipped in the bud
Veth, who is the North American manager for Transfermarkt and covers the Bundesliga for Forbes, claims that Borussia Dortmund instead hope to keep the player around this season.
“Whispers that #USMNT midfielder Gio Reyna could be loaned by #BVB to Scottish side Rangers,” tweets Veth.
“Source told me that that is extremely unlikely. Terzic is hopeful to get the American back on track this season and Reyna has worked hard on his fitness in the offseason.”
Giovanni Reyna spent much of the last campaign on the sidelines, missing 32 of Dortmund’s 46 games and even toiling in the run-up to that famous Rangers Europa League victory over the German side last season.
Whilst Gio played 45 minutes in the first leg of that match – a 4-2 defeat to the Ibrox club and his namesake van Bronckhorst – Reyna missed the entire first half of the campaign with a muscle injury.

Rangers fans might be attracted to the name and they have every right to be but as things stand Giovanni Reyna is still rebuilding his fitness after a difficult season and perhaps Signal Iduna Park is the best place for him ahead of the new campaign.
Once linked to Man City as part of a £100m double deal alongside Erling Haaland, Giovanni Reyna must once again prove himself if he’s to earn this sort of interest in the future.
Meanwhile, one key Rangers star looks set to be leaving Ibrox as an outspoken English manager gets ready to eat his words.
