Bristol City have announced the signing of Tomas Kalas from Chelsea.
The 26-year-old defender signed a four-year contract, having been successfully lured back to the club where he spent the 2018/19 season on loan.
The Robins confirmed that Kalas commanded a club-record fee, reported to be in the region of £8 million [The Sun].

The move brings to an end a nine-year stint at Stamford Bridge for the centre-back. He is also an established international, with 19 caps for the Czech Republic.
The Bristol Post reported earlier this month, that Kalas was in high demand. In fact, multiple other clubs, including Rangers, were said to have made him an offer.
However, this considerable transfer fee perhaps suggests why the Gers were unsuccessful.

At a reported £3 million [
Sky Sports], Connor Goldson is currently the club’s most expensive defender. While Kalas is a player who should be entering his prime, £8 million still constitutes a risk Rangers wouldn’t be able to take.
Therefore, Gerrard’s search for a fourth centre-back continues. Both Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley left at the end of last season, and so far, only George Edmundson has come in. He set the Light Blues back a reported £700k [BBC Sport] from EFL League Two side, Oldham Athletic.
