Brighton have recalled winger Jeremy Sarmiento as Rangers continue to be linked with a permanent move for Abdallah Sima.
The Premier League side have confirmed that they’ve recalled Ecuadorean winger Sarmiento, 21, from West Bromwich Albion.
Officially, Rangers Hall of Famer and Brighton Technical Director David Weir claims that the Seagulls “will look at what is the next best step for his development”.
It comes with Jeremy Sarmiento making only seven starts at the Baggies this season and with Greek outfit Aris Thessaloniki linked to the player.
Brighton are also in the midst of something of an injury crisis in that area of the park, with Ansu Fati, Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra all left winger options who’ve picked up problems.
On the other side, Brighton stalwart Solly March is also currently nursing an injury issue.
Brighton recall winger Jeremy Sarmiento
It is not clear what Brighton’s next step will be but given the backdrop of Abdallah Sima’s fine form at Rangers, Gers fans will have one eye on Brighton’s injury situation.
Rangers signed Abdallah Sima on a season-long loan deal in the summer and the £7m ex-Slavia Prague attacker has been on fine form at Ibrox.
Scoring 14 goals already this season, the attacker has been a regular contributor off the left and Rangers are certainly set to miss him when Sima goes to AFCON later this January.
There is no suggestion that Brighton could recall Abdallah Sima as things stand but if the club’s injury issues do not relent then they will have to find solutions to the problems in their squad.
Aballah Sima joined the English side back in 2021 but is yet to play for the club, having spent the last two seasons on loan at Stoke City and then Angers in Ligue 1.

Rangers boss wants to sign Abdallah Sima
Rangers fans are currently holding their breath over the possible permanent transfer of the forward, who has a big fan in manager Philippe Clement.
Abdallah Sima is certainly happy in Glasgow as things stand and is about to go into the final year of his Brighton contract at the end of the season.
Speaking about the forward’s situation, it’s clear Clement wants to keep the hitman around beyond the summer but it remains unclear just how Rangers would finance the move.
Nonetheless, Rangers are expected to open negotiations over a transfer switch directly.
“It’s not about assessing that in the summer, there will be talks faster than that,” claims Clement.
“But of course it’s really early to be doing that now. The most important thing is that Abdallah is that performing and that he feels really good in the club. That’s the first step so we can build on that.
“If he is continuing what he is is doing now I think this is also a good place for him to grow, as a player, as a person, in everything.”
Abdallah Sima has made 32 appearances for Rangers already this season, with nine of his 13 goals coming in the Scottish Premiership.
