A report in the homeland of influential Rangers star Borna Barisic has quelled fears of an Ibrox exit – as heavily linked AS Roma move elsewhere.

Rangers fans everywhere have been nervously chewing their fingernails heading into the final few hours of the transfer window following scenes at the end of the 1-0 Old Firm derby win.

Barisic – who provided the winning goal with an expert corner onto the head of Filip Helander – was visibly emotional come the final whistle and had to be consoled by teammates.

The 28-year-old full-back even kissed the turf before exiting the pitch and with assistant manager Gary McAllister refusing to rule out player sales, it had plenty worried Borna would be the first to leave as part of the club’s much-talked-about player trading business model.

Serie A side AS Roma have been heavily rumoured alongside Borna in recent days but according to Sportske Novosti, the Croatian international will stay in Glasgow.

That report claims that a family member of Borna’s has told them that talk of a move to Italy is “inaccurate” and that he is set to remain with Rangers.

This will come as a sizeable relief to Rangers fans worried about their big game left-back moving on to pastures new.

These comments also come alongside the news that AS Roma – now guided by legendary manager Jose Mourinho – have already splashed out on a left-back this window.

According to Football Italia, Roma paid £11m (€13m) to sign Matias Vina from Brazilian club Palmeiras at the beginning of August.

Borna Barisic joined Rangers for a reported £1.5m in 2018 and has gone on to make 117 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and laying on an impressive 33 assists.

Whist the future of the Croatian may well be at Ibrox, one journalist has also provided an update over the short-term future of a first-team midfielder at Rangers.
