Birmingham City fans have responded on social media following a report that former Rangers starlet Brian Kinnear has agreed a contract at St Andrew’s.

Kinnear is a 20-year-old goalkeeper who was released by the Gers earlier this month following several years with the club’s Academy.

He impressed at age-group level and had two loan spells away from Auchenhowie at Camelon Juniors and Annan Athletic.

However, most Rangers fans will know him as one of the five contracted players involved in a breach of Covid regulations back in February.

With his Gers contract running down, the Edinburgh-born keeper joined Birmingham for a trial last month and it appears that he impressed during his time in the West Midlands.

That’s as the Daily Record reports that he’s been handed a permanent deal ahead of next season.

The Blues finished 18th in the EFL Championship last season and are currently managed by Lee Bowyer.

It looks a pretty good move for Kinnear, particularly given that he made just one appearance during a several-month stay at Annan in SPFL League Two last season.

However, the alleged transfer has left plenty of Birmingham fans puzzled.

Many aren’t quite sure why their club have handed a deal to yet another goalkeeper, given that Andrés Prieto, Neil Etheridge, Connal Trueman, Zach Jeacock and Aaron Clayton are all already on the books.
