As loan moves go, Ben Davies’ switch from Rangers to Birmingham is serving its purpose and then some.
The centre half wasn’t a regular at Ibrox and decided to go out and try to play more games in England’s League One.
It didn’t take him long to become a first pick in Chris Davies’ XI and he has made 37 appearances, including 29 in the league.
On top of all that game time, the 29-year-old will likely have a league winner’s medal to show for his effort after the Blues stretched nine points ahead of Wrexham with two games in hand.
Birmingham fans are enamoured with Davies and his performances in the heart of their defence and have talked him up on more than one occasion.
The Gers loanee had his own say on that after being quizzed on the supporters’ love for him and a potential future at St Andrews.
If Barry Ferguson were to land the job permanently it could suit Davies, who could slot in on the left of the back three currently being adopted.
But Birmingham would probably have something to say about that given how successful his loan has been.

Rangers loanee Davies on Birmingham transfer chances
It is believed there is no option to buy in the loan deal that took Davies to Birmingham during last summer’s transfer window.
But given how well his spell has gone and how crucial he has been to their defence, it wouldn’t be outlandish to think the Midlands club could look to strike a permanent deal.
He is not likely to have a future at Rangers although he is contracted until 2026.
Davies says he hasn’t been giving serious thought to his future yet as he concentrates on the title run-in, but admits he would seriously consider making the move permanent.
Speaking after the 4-1 win over Shrewsbury at the weekend, he said: “I haven’t thought about it. I came on loan to play a lot of games and hopefully help Birmingham back up and have a good season.
“I’m happy with how it’s going here but I’ll think about that and consider all my options in the summer.
“I’m going to work here till the summer then see what my agent says. I’m really enjoying it here so if the opportunity arose I’d consider it seriously.
“But it’s not really my decision at the minute so I’m going to wait and then see what’s happening.”
Davies should leave Rangers
With a new dawn approaching at Rangers, Davies should look to cut ties with the club.
He always had certain qualities and gave some good displays, but never fully convinced and that was why he couldn’t quite become a regular.
With the expectation there will be money to spend in the summer after the 49ers led takeover, it’s not going to become any easier to get game time.
Davies seems to have found a home that suits him and sticking with Birmingham would make sense.
