Bailey Rice receives offer as Rangers exit firmly on the cards

Bailey Rice could leave Rangers at the end of the season on a free, as his contract at Ibrox is running out.

The 19-year-old is a highly-rated prospect, but has been unlucky this season, with an injury ruling him out until the summer.

This meant that he could not play a single league or European game, and thus did not get a chance to prove to the decision makers why he deserves a new deal.

Schalke make a personal terms offer to sign Bailey Rice

According to Fabrizio Romano, Schalke, who have won the German top flight on seven occasions, have made a personal terms offer to sign Rice.

Along with them, Ajax are also looking to secure the services of the Scottish midfielder on a free transfer.

Schalke have been the first ones to act, making an initial offer, but nothing has been agreed with the teenager yet.

Rice has not agreed on a new deal with the Ibrox outfit, and all options remain open for him.

He does qualify as homegrown and Danny Rohl will be exploring options to keep him at Ibrox beyond the summer.

That could include issuing promises over game time ahead of next season.

Reporting on Rice’s situation on X, Romano wrote: “Ajax and Schalke are both trying to sign Bailey Rice from Rangers as a free agent.

“Scottish midfielder is out of contract this summer and Schalke have made initial personal terms offer already.

“Bailey hasn’t agreed yet with Rangers on a new deal and he’s open to options.”

What Danny Rohl has said about Rice’s future at Rangers

Rohl seems to be an admirer, even though the midfielder is yet to play a single game under him.

Rice picked up a season-ending injury, meaning that the Gers boss would not be able to assess his talent firsthand and make an informed decision about keeping him.

However, the German is understood to want to keep Rice at the club and even stated that he was waiting for him to return from injury.

He seemed to be positive when quizzed about a new contract being offered to him, but that was in January and things have since changed considerably.

Rohl said: “Yeah, for Bailey, I think it’s first about coming back after a big, big injury. He is working hard in this case, and then we make a decision from our side.”
