Highly-rated Rangers goalkeeper Mason Munn is reportedly a transfer target for Premier League challengers Arsenal.
And this may not come as much of a surprise to those of you who recall Phil Cowen’s switch from Ibrox to the Emirates back in October. Cowen, who was the head of Rangers’ talent identification, per The Sun, left two months ago, moving south of the border after being offered a job in Arsenal’s feted academy.
And one of Cowen’s first moves in the English capital could be to bring Mason Munn with him. The former Gers scout was the driving force behind Rangers’ pursuit of the 17-year-old glovesman in 2022, Munn joining the Glasgow giants from Northern Irish outfit Glentoran. And Cowen is keen on a reunion at Arsenal, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.

Arsenal eye Rangers starlet Mason Munn
Rangers had chased Munn for three years before finally getting their mitts on the teenager a year-and-a-half ago (Belfast Live). The two-time Northern Ireland U19 international has made a couple of appearances for Rangers B team in the Challenge Cup this season.
And the Gers will be hoping that Munn’s lifelong adoration for the Ibrox outfit is enough to keep him out of Arsenal’s grasp.
“I can’t wait to get started, get in the building and get pre-season under way,” Munn told the Belfast Telegraph after putting pen to paper. “I’m a boyhood Rangers fan.
“Phil Cowan, a Rangers scout in Northern Ireland, got in contact about two years ago and got me over on trial. I loved it. And although other clubs were interested, they are very nice people at Rangers. And, of course, there’s such a strong connection with Northern Ireland,” Munn added.
“Family members support Rangers and they have a huge fan base here. So I’m very excited. It’s a big step up. But I’m up for the challenge and will hopefully settle in well into the full-time environment.
“I’ve seen a few Rangers players walking around the training ground. It gives you an extra buzz to know you are in that environment. It gave me added motivation to know that, if I worked hard and got my head down, I could be there one day.”
Goalkeeper very highly-rated at Ibrox
Rangers’ current number one, Jack Butland, certainly provides a fine example for Munn to learn from. Ibrox icon Allan McGregor is full of praise for the man who took his place between the sticks over the summer.
