NK Osijek’s sporting director Alen Petrovic has spoken extremely highly of new Rangers signing Borna Barišić, and now fans surely have reason to be very excited about the defender.

The Gers officially announced the deal on Tuesday, which was their 11th of the summer under Steven Gerrard, and fans were pleased with the news following his performances against Rangers for Osijek in the recent Europa League qualifying tie.

Barišić has joined on a four-year deal for around £2 million, and that would appear to be an absolute snip if Petrovic’s comments are anything to go by.

Osijek’s sporting director has spoken for the first time since sanctioning the sale fo the full-back to the Scottish giants, and believes Gerrard has a gem on his hands.

He said, as quoted by the Daily Record: “It’s a lucky coincidence Rangers were able to see how good he was these last couple of weeks as they were not the only club from the UK market chasing his signature. There were Premier League and Championship clubs after him, as well as concrete offers from Italy and France.

“Rangers have not only signed the future left-back of the Croatia national team but also a player who in two or three years’ time, will move to the Premier League.

“Borno isn’t just the best left-back in Croatia but the whole region. I’ve watched him all my life and he is the best crosser of the ball in the country.”

It’s a glowing report from Petrovic, who clearly feels Rangers fans are in for a treat watching Barišić. The fact that he was being coveted by a number of clubs probably tells you all you need to know.

Petrovic also added that he believes Barišić can become Croatia’s first-choice left-back for years to come, which definitely suggests the player has a lot of quality, which Rangers have of course already seen up close in Europa League qualifying.
