Agent warns Rangers they may have to pay £7m for star with ‘special qualities’

The price-tag attached to the Rangers target, depending on who you listen to, sits somewhere between £4 million and £8 million.

Now, that is quite a substantial difference. Particularly for Scotland-based clubs who, even the most deep-pocketed among them, do not tend to make a habit of signing players close to the eight-figure range.

Initially, the president of Rapid Bucharest – Dan Sucu – insisted that he would like to bring in around £7 million for the highly-rated and much-coveted Albion Rrahmani. Then, reports came out suggesting that around £4 million would be enough to secure the services of Rangers19-goal striker target.

But what has Cristian Cernodolea – a FIFA-registered agent with connections in Romanian football – heard about a man who’s agent reportedly held talks with Ibrox director Nils Koppen last week?

Well, speaking to GSP Live, Cernodolea feels that Rrahmani’s eventual fee will be closer to the £8 million mark than the £4 million one.

Rangers in for Rapid Bucharest striker Albion Rrahmani

“Knowing the market and what is happening in the market, I am absolutely convinced that Rrahmani will leave this summer,” says the agent, who represents a number of players in Romanian football if not Rapid Bucharest’s devastating number nine.

“I know Rapid has offers on the table. There are many teams that came to see him, important teams, there had their scouts at matches in Bucharest. I’m sure some of them were impressed, I have information on that.

“If I had to estimate, I would say that at this point I’m almost convinced Rapid has between 5 and 6 million on the table for Rrahmani. And I don’t think they will sell him for that amount.

“The club is aiming for somewhere around 7 to 8 million (euros).”

Czech giants Sparta Prague have reportedly submitted an offer. There is, as of yet, no information about a bid forthcoming from Glasgow, though that could change after Koppen reportedly made the trip to Mexico in order to open up discussions with the 23-year-old’s camp (Digisport).

Rrahmani won the Golden Boot in his native Kosovo for Ballkani in 2022/23 and proved equally effective in Romania. Ambidextrous and artistic with his finishing, Rrahmani would give Rangers arguably a more natural goalscoring option than the persevering but often profligate Cyriel Dessers.

Rrahmani, arguably the stand out player in Romanian domestic football right now, has been labelled the top-flight’s most impressive frontman of the last 15 years by one pundit.

One agent thinks £7m may be required

“He is a striker with special qualities,” Cernodolea adds. “He has speed, he is technical, sees the goal well, passes…

“He is not the classic ‘(number) nine’ type. (Rrahmani is not) for example, a strong, tall striker. There are many teams looking for Rrahmani’s exact type of striker. He is sure to leave this summer for more than six million.”

Rangers, according to reports closer to home, are also interested in Bristol City contract rebel Tommy Conway (Bristol Post).

The one-time Scotland international does not possess Rrahmani’s prolific track record but is young, improving and well-adapted to British football after two years of regular starts at Ashton Gate.
