The agent of Union Berlin defender and one-time Rangers target Danilo Doekhi believes he could soon be making a big move to Serie A or to the English Premier League.
During the summer of 2022, Danilo Doekhi chose Union Berlin’s antiquated-yet-atmospheric, wood-panelled, sepia-tinged stadium over the bright lights of Ibrox. Rangers, according to De Gelderlander, had offered the then-Vitesse Arnhem captain a three-year deal in Glasgow before he became a free-agent.
Now going up against Napoli and Real Madrid on the biggest stage in European football, even the most hard-nosed Rangers supporter would struggle to argue that Doekhi made the wrong call these days, even if Union’s fairytale story has been checked somewhat by a miserable run of eight straight defeats in all competitions.

Doekhi’s agent, meanwhile, believes that the 25-year-old Dutchman is only just getting started at the top level. Inter Milan and Napoli have already been linked with a £13 million swoop, per OneFootball, alongside a number of clubs based on the other side of Hadrian’s Wall.
Rangers could have had Danilo Doekhi
“He will certainly be able to play in Italy in the future. He would like to,” Seraino Dalgliesh tells Radio CRC, Doekhi starting against what could be his future employers as Napoli claimed a narrow Champions League win in Berlin.
“The next transfer could be to Italy, but also to England or in Germany. We will see. But he will certainly play in Italy in his career.”
Now a target for Napoli and Inter Milan
Rangers are likely to be in the market for a centre-half themselves in 2024, though Doekhi has since moved beyond the club’s financial wingspan. Conor Goldson is not quite the same imperious force of old at the age of 30, while Ben Davies is yet to really convince since his £4 million move from Liverpool.
Rangers are, however, on a run of two successive clean sheets ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash at Sparta Prague.
