Aberdeen enter race for Ibrox-linked David Watson

According to the Daily Record, Aberdeen have entered the race to sign Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson this summer.

Rangers have been keen on Watson, while arch-rivals Celtic are also keeping tabs on the Scottish midfielder.

The 21-year-old’s contract at Kilmarnock expires at the end of June, making him a highly sought-after free agent in the transfer window.

Serie A outfit Bologna also like Watson and are considering a move for him in the coming weeks.

While the attacking midfielder appears set for a move, it remains unclear where he will be heading.

Why signing Watson makes sense for Rangers

Rangers want to build a Scottish core and bring in players who have solid experience in the Scottish Premiership.

In Watson, they will get someone who checks both boxes and the added advantage is that he’s only 21, so he has the best years of his career ahead of him.

As his contract is running out, securing his services on a free transfer is a potential low-risk and high-reward strategy.

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!

He is capable of chipping in with goals as well, making him a must-have in midfield as none of Gers’ current midfielders has those abilities.

Watson’s standout attribute is his versatility, as he is capable of playing deeper as well as on the wings.

The 21-year-old is known for his work rate and stamina, and can be useful while leading the press for Rohl’s side.

He has been likened to Scott McTominay for his late arrivals into the box, so this will be a deal Rohl considers.
