Aberdeen chairman sends warning amid reported Rangers interest in Ferguson

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has warned clubs that they will only sell their players for a fair price amid reported Rangers interest in Lewis Ferguson.

It emerged earlier this week that Dons employees had agreed pay cuts of an average of 20% for those earning over £30,000 a year in a bid to save £1 million.

However, Cormack insists that the significant financial challenges posed by the global health crisis won’t press his club into selling players on the cheap.

“I’m telling you that, even though we have been transparent with our fans about filling these gaps, we will not bend over and be taken for granted as far as selling players are concerned,” said the chairman, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“People not wanting to pay full and fair value for the players is like a red rag to a bull to me.

“We just need to wait and see, but we are going into this season not expecting to sell a player. I believe we will fill the gap we’ve got.

“If the right offer comes in for Aberdeen FC, whatever that is, we may take it.”

Rangers interest in Aberdeen star – Verdict

Cormack has certainly made his point here but whether it is all show or not remains to be seen.

The Dons may want big fees for their players but the reality is that the effects of the global health crisis will leave most clubs unable or unwilling to pay big money up front this summer.

Lewis Ferguson is the Aberdeen player the Gers are said to have their eye on as Steven Gerrard looks to add aggression and dynamism to his midfield.

At this stage, it looks like Amiens star Bongani Zungu may be the prime target [The Scotsman], though, so if the Dons are hoping that a big offer comes out of Ibrox, they may be disappointed.
