Rangers’ pursuit of Brighton forward Abdallah Sima threatens to go to the wire in the transfer window.
The 23-year-old Senegalese forward spent last season on loan at Ibrox and left a big impression at the club despite spending the latter half of the campaign injured.
Philippe Clement has been clear that he’d like Sima to return, whilst the striker himself hasn’t exactly been shy in talking up the move.
But after Rangers’ costly failure to qualify for the Champions League, it remains unclear if the Ibrox side can stump up the sorts of cash Brighton could demand for the services of Abdallah Sima.
Now, the transfer saga has taken a fresh twist as one leading French journalist responds to reports that Sima is a target for a club in Ligue 1.

Sima to Ligue 1 transfer confusion
Abdallah Sima certainly appears to have little to no future at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Premier League club have been busy reinforcing their squad, with the double signings of Brajan Gruda and Georginio Rutter shunting the Senegalese forward down the pecking order.
With the Seagulls also signing Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh and Right to Dream academy star Ibrahim Osman, chances are likely to be a premium.
But as Brighton’s summer of investment continues – the Premier League club are even in for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley – the conversation around Sima’s future is being ramped up.
Now, in France a leading journalist has appeared to nip suggestions that Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois are interested in Abdallah Sima in the bud.
French journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter has snapped back at a Brest supporters account on X which used his name to suggest the Ligue 1 side were interested in Sima.
Whilst the journalist didn’t completely rule any interest out, Toubache-Ter appeared to suggest that he hadn’t given up any names with regards Brest’s summer transfer plans.
Describing the suggestion that Brest want Sima as ‘strong’, you can almost hear the collective flutter of hearts in the Rangers support as the forward is linked elsewhere.
Translated, the tweet reads:
”You are strong, I didn’t give any names yet ahaha what you do is strong ahah.”
Sima spent a season on loan with Angers in France before his loan stint with Rangers last season.
Rangers fans wait on transfer cogs to turn
Rangers fans are naturally keeping right on top of any information coming out around Abdallah Sima this summer.
Signing the Senegalese forward would certainly represent a sizeable boost for the club heading into the remainder of the new campaign.
Rangers look decidedly short in the forward areas and are known to be on the hunt for attacking reinforcements as the transfer window begins to bottleneck.
For the time being, it appears that any suggestion Brest could rival Rangers for Sima is a tad premature and let’s see how the situation progresses in France.
As Brighton ramp up their summer spending, Rangers continue to wait on high profile exits before they can move forward with their own plans.
Philippe Clement gave a bleak transfer update over the weekend where he took aim at several of the club’s unwanted stars.
