Rangers missed out on Auston Trusty over the summer but he’s yet to make an impact for new club Sheffield United.
Gers fans expected a new centre back to come in over the summer.
There were links to Jonathan Panzo and Harry Souttar, but the only central defender to arrive was Leon Balogun.
Bringing veteran Balogun back to Ibrox wasn’t really what Rangers fans had in mind.
The Nigerian offers squad depth but doesn’t boost the starting XI at Ibrox, leaving supporters underwhelmed.
Rangers missed out on Auston Trusty
Rangers did have top targets in mind though with Arsenal defender Auston Trusty wanted.
Reports from the Daily Mail in May suggested that Trusty had become a key target in a potential £2million deal.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday (23/07, p95) added that Trusty was Michael Beale’s top role as he attempted to bring in a new left-footed centre back.
Sadly, Rangers couldn’t get a deal done and Rangers Review suggest that the price tag for Trusty ‘became prohibitive’.
Rangers had to ditch a move for Trusty and then saw him move to Sheffield United in a deal worth around £5million – much more than the initial expected price tag.

Trusty watches 8-0 thrashing from the bench
Trusty enjoyed a great season on loan at Birmingham City and was hoping to really kick on with Sheffield United.
Well, things haven’t quite got going for the American international just yet.
Trusty has only managed four minutes of Premier League action so far, coming off the bench for a debut against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
The 25-year-old was an unused substitute on Sunday as he watched the Blades lose 8-0 at the hands of Newcastle United.
Watching that kind of embarrassing defeat from the bench can’t have been enjoyable and Trusty may now believe that such a terrible defensive showing can pave the way for him to finally start a Premier League game.
Trusty would surely have made a much bigger impact at Rangers at this early stage of the season and will just have to push for more minutes under Paul Heckingbottom.
