£4.5m ace shows Rangers what they’re missing with stunning scissor kick goal

As winning goals go, the contrast between Cyriel Dessers decisive deflection during Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Motherwell and the gravity-defying effort Ibrahim Adel pulled out of the top drawer just 24 hours later could hardly have been any more contrasting. 

The only goal of the game, Pyramids FC maintaining their 100 per cent record with a hard-fought triumph away from home at National Bank, Ibrahim Adel saw a cross threaten to float harmlessly over his head and saw it not as a chance gone a-begging but an opportunity to do something a bit special.

A bit out of the ordinary. 

And while the goal which broke Monday’s deadlock might not have been quite as picturesque as Wayne Rooney’s infamous Manchester derby game-breaker a decade ago – taking a slight nick on it’s way over the line – Adel still gets top marks for athleticism and ambition. 

Rangers held talks to sign Ibrahim Adel

His scintillating scissor kick was Adel’s first of the new campaign. And, from a Rangers perspective, a timely reminder as to why the Glasgow giants should not give up on luring the Egypt under 21 international to Ibrox, Beale’s side lacking such inspiration and unpredictability during another highly unconvincing performance at home to Motherwell.

“Rangers entered into negotiations to sign the player,” a source speaking on behalf of Pyramids FC tells Laila Kora.  

“But (the talks) stopped due to the failure to reach an agreement with the club regarding the financial considerations.”

According to reports, Pyramids FC value Adel at around £4.5 million, and are hoping to tie the winger down to a new contract – complete with a pay rise – should Rangers plan to come calling again in the New Year. 

Rangers’ new Ryan Kent?

Whether they do, of course, depends on whether Abdallah Sima, Danilo and co can prove their worth on a bi-weekly basis, Rangers’ many attacking additions struggling to live up to expectations so far.

Beale, meanwhile, did admit that he wanted another Ryan Kent-esque wideman at Ibrox. It may be no coincidence that Adel, like the now-Fenerbahce man, loves to cut in from the left flank onto his right foot. 

But with his current employers already demanding in excess of £4 million, Adel’s early Goal of the Season contender may serve to pile a few more pounds onto a snowballing price-tag.
