It’s not quite at ‘saga’ territory yet. But, nearly one month since Rangers reportedly entered ‘advanced’ talks, a transfer story with more twists and turns than an Alton Towers family pass provides is certainly not far off.
Initially, it was expected that Ibrox would be his destination.
According to Rangers Review, Philippe Clement‘s side entered pretty serious discussions at the start of May. Then, things changed. Jose Cordoba was then reportedly on his way to Norwich City in England’s second tier instead.
The only sure thing, at this stage, is that Cordoba will no longer by plying his trade at Levski Sofia next season. The Panama international posted an emotional farewell on his official Instagram account on Wednesday, just 24 or so hours after confirming that an announcement about his next destination would ‘soon’ be forthcoming.

Rangers target Jose Cordoba says goodbye to Levski Sofia
“The most loved, the most respected, the greatest (club) in Bulgaria. Thank you blue for everything,” Cordoba writes. “You always remain in my heart. Thanks to all my team-mates who, from the very beginning to the very end, always welcomed me in the best way.
“Only Levski!”
The next time Cordoba updates his social media, his post may be accompanied with photos of him in a new colour. And a new kit.
It appears unlikely now that the 22-year-old will swap the red of Levski Sofia for the blue of Rangers – the Glasgow powerhouses have turned their attention to Thomas Galdames of Godoy Cruz – but the yellow and green of Norwich could suit Cordoba rather well.
“Soon you will have news about my future,” Cordoba told COS Panama on Tuesday. “I have chosen a good project for myself to continue to develop.”
Gers turn to Thomas Galdames
Rangers may have extended Leon Balogun’s contract until the summer of 2025 but a left-sided centre-half remains high on Clement’s wishlist.
Galdames, his contract expiring in December, should be available for a damn sight less than the £3.1 million Levski want for Cordoba. According to TEMA Sport, Norwich overtook Rangers after offering a greater up-front fee, with The Gers hoping to stump up the eventual sum via add-ons and bonuses.
“We are negotiating with foreign clubs for Jose Cordoba. When the time comes, you will find out what will happen to Jose Cordoba,” Daniel Borimov, the Levski director, tells Kota Sport.
“It all depends on the price. If the respective player is sold, we will look for another in that position. If we have to and the player we have targeted requires a transfer fee to be deducted, we will do so.”
