With a defender still on the wishlist, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard wants Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall, according to the Daily Record.
The move would have to be a loan-deal, with the Rangers manager looking to provide cover for Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic. The signing is likely to signal the end of the club’s transfer business this year if it goes through.
Worrall captained England’s Under-21 side to victory at the Toulon Tournament back in 2017. However, despite the 21-year-old’s impressive international CV, he has fallen out of favour at Forest.
Rangers have already made an enquiry to Forest. He would be the third centre-back acquired this summer if the deal goes over the line.
The Ibrox side could have competition for the defender, with Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, and Stoke City also interested. Forest are only interested in a loan deal for Worrall.
Kyle Lafferty is the latest name to arrive through the Ibrox gates, making it 12 signings this summer under Gerrard.
Centre-half cover remains a huge priority. Rangers have allowed David Bates, Bruno Alves, and Danny Wilson to leave the club during the transfer window.
Worrall appears to have slipped down to fifth choice at Forest. However, the defender has made 49 appearances at the City Ground. He also spend a short loan spell at Dangenham and Redbridge, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal.
