Has Dapo Mebude rejected a new Rangers deal? - Report

Dapo Mebude’s contract situation at Ibrox is up in the air.

Football Insider are reporting that the youngster has turned down a new deal in Govan. This is despite the fact that Steven Gerrard has brought him up to train with the first-team squad on several occasions.

There’s been no official word on the story, with just the one source reporting the news. Nothing would be said officially however unless a new deal has been agreed.

Biggest STAR Your Club Are Trying To SIGN This Month

Mebude has been a star for the under-20s this season, and has also played a key part in helping Scotland Under-19s get through to the Elite round of Euro 2019 qualifying.

The youngster is one of the most exciting talents to come through the youth academy in some time. Not since Billy Gilmour has a young talent been so highly regarded. He does, however, join a list of highly-exciting young stars such as Andy Dallas, Stephen Kelly, and Jordan Houston who are all threatening a breakthrough.

Contract running out for Mebude

Mebude’s contract is set to expire next summer after signing his first professional contract in May. The flashbacks to Gilmour’s departure to Chelsea could be forgiven here. English suitors are highly likely to come calling if Rangers can’t tie down their biggest prospect.

Rangers had high hopes for Gilmour at such a young age. He left, however, without making a first-team appearance whilst the club only raked in a development fee for him.

Top clubs in England picking off Scotland’s young talent is the biggest concern for clubs north of the border trying to keep their youth stars. Rangers need to hope that Mebude hasn’t been swayed by the prospect of England’s bright lights.

Mebude has yet to make a single first-team appearance for the club, but he’s closing in on it at this stage. The likes of Serge Atakayi has featured for the first-team this season, showing that opportunities are available to those who deserve it.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, but Rangers will want to tie Mebude down regardless.
