For years there has been debate over former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson and Celtic captain Scott Brown, namely concerning each side’s transfer interest in the other.

Despite their Old Firm allegiances, both remain good friends from their Hibs days but supporters have regularly clashed over both stars.

And after an ignorant Celtic fan lambasted Thomson over reported interest from Celtic back in 2007, or in the fan’s mind a lack of it, the current Rangers coach put him right in his place.

Speaking from his Kevin Thomson Academy account, the feisty former midfielder responds to claims from a Celtic fan that there was no “Old Firm transfer tug of war” over his services.

Indeed the misguided supporter even suggests that this is because “Celtic were only interested in signing the better player Scott Brown”.

Que Thommo’s straight to the point response.

“Think you’ll find you ain’t a clue!” said Thomson.

“Up until the last day I had agreed a deal to go to Celtic, personal terms length of deal, but when Hibs agreed a deal with rangers I went and done my medical, and all the way at to hospital/Murray park at the time, Celtic didn’t stop phoning.”

Thomson would, of course, join Rangers in a £2m deal back in 2007.

His Hibernian teammate Scott Brown would move to Celtic for £4.4m the same season, reportedly amid interest from Rangers.

Kevin Thomson would spend three years at Ibrox, picking up five trophies and playing in the 2008 UEFA Cup Final before heading down south to play for Middlesbrough in 2010.

He returned to Ibrox in early 2019 to take on a role as youth coach.
