Stat comparison shows exactly why Rangers trail Celtic

It’s no secret that Rangers have fallen short too many times in the league this season.
Steven Gerrard’s side has shown glimpses of mounting a challenge.

However, too often they have been left frustrated either by a lack of goals or by late opposition strikes.
Now, stats published by BBC Sport show the exact nature and regularity of their shortcomings.

One issue has been an inability to break down opponents with the scores level.

The stats show that the Gers have won just once when level at the break. That’s 14% of all instances. Contrastingly, Celtic have won 69% of matches from the same position.
Furthermore, Gerrard’s side has lost a whopping 13 points from winning positions.

That equates to six of 23 leads lost. In comparison, Celtic have only failed to convert twice after taking the lead.

These numbers plainly set out what has been apparent for a while. Especially, since the turn of the year.
Rangers need to become more dynamic and more ruthless next season if they are to mount a genuine challenge.
