Rangers star Kemar Roofe has been named the star man in the SPFL Team of the Week for his goalscoring exploits against St Mirren – with the striker insisting the best is yet to come.
The ex-Leeds United and Anderlecht forward might have had his issues with injuries over the course of the season – and his career – but with Alfredo Morelos out this is the striker’s chance to get a proper run in the side.
Kemar Roofe might’ve been Rangers’ top scorer last season but the way the team is set up is designed to utilise the strengths of El Bufalo and there has been a period of transition.
With Morelos out for the season the onus is on Kemar Roofe to score and after drawing blanks against Celtic and Braga the hat-trick against the Buddies was a welcome sight.
Roofe’s first two goals were expert headers whilst he showed predatory instincts inside the box to complete the treble.
Taking to Instagram in the aftermath, Roofe decide the three goal haul as a “bucket list moment” and Rangers fans will be hoping Kemar can go on a run of important goalscoring.
Whilst the league remains a long shot Rangers are fighting for Europa League and Scottish Cup glory and goals from the striker could be the difference between lifting one or either trophy
The hat-trick against St Mirren was a good start but now the forward needs to build on this.
There was always going to be only one winner in this week’s SPFL Team of the Week and Kemar Roofe insists that the best is still to come from him this season.
“I’m not pleased with [my overall contribution]. I still feel like I’ve got more to come,” Roofe said [RangersTV].
“Match fitness will play a big part in that. I’m not happy with a few things but I can’t be too fussy, I scored three goals and we won the game. I’m happy but I’ve still got some things to work on.”
Rangers head into the tie with Braga 1-0 down and Gers fans will be hoping Kemar Roofe can find his scoring touch and fire the team to the Europa League semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ very own Gary Lineker has been promoting a major brand of crisps in his homeland.
