Rangers fans slaughter Hibs’ Ryan Porteous for “dangerous” red card

Rangers fans have been calling out Hibs defender Ryan Porteous for a disgraceful lunging challenging which saw red in the Ibrox side’s 2-1 win in Glasgow.

Hibs defender Porteous is never far away from the drama in clashes with Rangers and the defender was sent off for a late, high-speed, out-of-control challenge on Joe Aribo.

However, despite the challenge clearly meriting further action, there have been several complaints from rival fans about the decision from Nick Walsh.

This is clearly not something Steven Gerrard agrees with as the Ibrox gaffer hit out at Porteous for letting his manager down with the disgraceful effort at wiping the Nigerian international out.

“It’s a red card. 100%,” said Gerrard [STV].

“As someone who knows a thing or two about bad tackles, because I’ve made a few myself, it doesn’t come much worse than that.

“To go in at that speed, with that force, at that height, if he had connected with Joe Aribo then Joe’s season would have been done, for sure.

“This kid done one very similar on Lassana Coulibaly a little while ago and he obviously hasn’t learnt his lesson. Hopefully he learns moving forward because he’s let Jack down today and his staff and his players.

“At 1-0 up, if he wants to, he can play the ball. But he decides to go a foot over the ball and he’s running at some speed. Thankfully it wasn’t full contact otherwise Joe Aribo would have been in trouble.”

This is a sentiment backed up by Rangers fans who criticised the 22-year-old Ryan Porteous for appearing to lunge into a potentially serious clash with one of their star players:

Rangers ran out 2-1 winners against Hibs, coming back from a Kevin Nisbet opener to win the clash courtesy of headers from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos.

In doing so, the Gers sent out a title message to their rivals that they shall not be moved.
