Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has criticised the John Lundstram handball decision which led to Kilmarnock’s penalty in the Scottish Premiership clash.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder took to social media platform X to criticise the call after Rangers star John Lundstram was adjudged to have handballed a cross into the box.

Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong converted the resultant penalty with Rangers going in 1-0 down at the end of a tough first half for the visiting side.

It’s a situation which has irked Kevin Thomson, who took to social media to express his frustration.

Rangers fans are fuming at the soft penalty decision, where John Lundstram jumped into the cross in the box and was adjudged to have handled the ball.

The question is was Lundstram’s hand outside his body when the original contact was made and there can be little doubt this penalty is in the soft category.

Remarkably, whistler David Dickinson couldn’t blow quick enough for the spot kick whilst the team in the VAR room took little time to review the incident, if at all.

There has also been substantial criticism of the flapping Borna Barisic, who tried to cheaply buy a free-kick in the corner of the pitch prior to the award but was actually punished for handling the ball.

All to do in second half for Rangers

As things stand, Rangers are certainly toiling at Rugby Park with Philippe Clement’s side struggling to impose themselves on the game.

Kilmarnock are being ridged, committed, and organised, whilst Rangers are struggling to create any meaningful chances.

The best opportunities of the half have fallen to Kilmarnock who might have found themselves at least 2-0 come up the break had they not spurned them.

It’s a big 45 minutes ahead for the Rangers team as they look to build momentum behind a title tilt and send a message to the Scottish Premiership.
