The Fir Park side are currently on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Graham Alexander on the eve of the Premiership season following their Sligo Rovers humiliation.
The Steelmen lost 3-0 on aggregate against the League of Ireland side as the club’s Europa Conference League dream died before it ever really began.
After caretaker boss Stevie Hammell guided the club to an opening day 1-0 win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, the hunt is on for who will take the reins at Fir Park this season.
Ex-Rangers star Kevin Thomson linked to Motherwell job
According to the Scottish Sun, ex-Kelty Hearts Kevin Thomson is one of several names in the running for the Motherwell job.
They claim the ex-Rangers, Hibs and Middlesbrough midfielder joins the likes of Sean Maloney, Mixu Paatelainen and Billy Davies as being interested parties in the job.
In fact, it is claimed as many as 40 manager have expressed an interest in the role.
Kevin Thomson has been out of work ever since leaving Kelty Hearts at the end of the season despite guiding the former Lowland League club to League One promotion.
Thomson had replaced Barry Ferguson in the role after his former Rangers teammate had secured promotion to the SPFL.
Since then John Potter has come in at Kelty Hearts and now Kevin Thomson has been named as amongst the frontrunners in the Motherwell job hunt.
Kevin Thomson has made no bones about his ambitions to manage at Rangers in the future and this step to Motherwell may be a necessary one if he is to achieve his dream.
But it certainly would be strange to see the former Rangers midfielder back at Ibrox in a coaching capacity, only this time in the away dugout instead of the home one.
Speaking of the vacant Motherwell job, Kevin Thomson isn’t the only ex-Rangers player being linked with the role.
