Ex-Celtic striker Scott McDonald gave Rangers fans one of the best days of their lives and he’s given them a chuckle ahead of the upcoming Old Firm with Celtic.

The Australian striker scored both goals for Motherwell in the closing stages of their match with Celtic on Helicopter Sunday to send the title to Rangers and Easter Road.

It’s a moment Rangers fans will never forget and one that they are forever indebted to Scott McDonald, even if he’d eventually move to Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Ahead of the match, the former striker has been out speaking to Sky Sports and Rangers fans have been having something of a chuckle regarding an Old Firm comment.

Celtic fans have a hard time keeping up this Glasgow Derby thing at the best of times and on live TV Scott McDonald blurted out the term “Old Firm” before scrambling to correct himself.

For some supporters of our rivals, they insist on calling the game the Glasgow Derby – despite this being the match between Rangers and Queen’s Park – because of the Ibrox side’s financial issues in 2012.

Still called the Old Firm everywhere except from in the minds of bitter rivals – including in a trademark part-owned by Celtic – Scott McDonald sums up the nonsense surrounding the entire thing here.

He’s pandering to the same support who demand the “old allocation” for a fixture that doesn’t exist against a team who don’t exist and a fan base who don’t exist.

This is fans who’ll refer to the game pre-2012 as “the Derby” completely failing to understand the concept of their nonsensery.

Rangers fans genuinely love it and there is nothing quite like angry old Celtic fans losing the rag online when official outlets or people celebrate Rangers or call the fixture the Old Firm.

An official UEFA account even sent them into something of a meltdown this week when they tweeted a congratulatory message to Rangers.
