Club loyalties set aside as Rangers’ Premiership rivals toast Walter Smith

As Rangers are rocked by the passing of Ibrox legend Walter Smith, club loyalties have been put to one side as a nation remembers one of its greatest footballing figures.

An imperious figure whose legend continues to echo around the halls of Ibrox, Smith’s passing has of course been felt hardest by those associated with Rangers.

But the ex-Ibrox manager also spent time with the likes of Dundee United, Everton, Manchester United and Scotland in his coaching career.

One of the last of his kind, Smith’s passing has seen tributes fly in from across the footballing spectrum as the Rangers legend’s influence is shown across the beautiful game.

But as Scottish football mourns the death of a genuine footballing legend, the Scottish Premiership football clubs have all come together to remember the Ibrox icon.

In a touching series of tributes, all but two of Rangers’ Premiership rivals have at the time of writing taken the time to pay tribute to Smith via their social media channels:

We’re sure that regardless of club loyalties every side involved in a full card of Scottish Premiership matches tomorrow evening will observe a minute’s silence in honour of the Great man.

But nowhere will the emotion of Smith’s passing be more felt than at Ibrox as Rangers prepare to face off against Aberdeen.

The Gers know that the match with their northeast rivals remains a potentially pivotal one in the title race but Walter’s passing has given the affair an extra dimension.

Football will almost be secondary to remembering the Rangers legend and Steven Gerrard has tasked his side with giving the Gaffer an on-pitch tribute by winning the game.

Here’s how we fancy the Rangers team to line up against Aberdeen on what promises to be an emotional night at Ibrox.
